Shilajit is a substance found on rocks in the Himalayan areas of India and Afghanistan. According to Dr. Ray Sahelian, shilajit is thought to be a mixture of organic humic substances and other plant and microbial substances. Shilajit has been used for a long time in and around India as a libido enhancer. According to a study done by Chungbuk National University in South Korea, shilajit showed both a spermiogenic and ovogenic effect in rats meaning that it enhanced the formation of sperm and eggs. However, to date no scientific studies have been done on humans to test the effectiveness of shilajit for libido or any other health benefits.
Consult your doctor before beginning to take a shilajit supplement. The supplement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration and no reliable studies have been conducted on humans, therefore its potential risks and benefits are unknown and a doctor should monitor you while taking shilajit.
Take one to two capsules twice a day or follow the dosage recommendations from your physician. Most shilajit comes in capsule form and can be found in health food stores and online. The recommended dosage on the bottles is one to two capsules two times per day.
Continue to take indefinitely. Shilajit is designed to be used as a constant supplement like a vitamin so you do not have to cycle on or off like you do with some supplements.
Shilajit has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or with verifiable scientific studies on humans. Therefore its benefits and risks are unknown.
