Homeopathy employs the use of highly diluted amounts of substances derived from plants and minerals in order to assist the body in healing itself. Homeopathic pharmaceutical companies prepare these remedies based on rigorous standards. Specific remedies are chosen based on specific symptoms. These symptoms may be both physiological and psychological. Homeopathic remedies can provide a safe and effective solution for conditions that affect the nervous system.

Hypericum is the homeopathic remedy derived from the plant St. John’s Wort. This remedy is indicated for use in cases of severe shooting pains that may occur as a result of nerve pain or nerve injury. Numbness that accompanies a tingling or burning sensation may also be present. When an injury affects an area of the body that is rich in nerve endings, such as the fingers or toes, eyes and lips, Hypericum may be especially beneficial. Puncture wounds and burns may also respond well to this remedy. According to Dr. Ellen Feingold, this remedy should be given in 30C potency every 0.5 to 2 hours as needed. Frequency may be decreased to 3 to 4 times daily when the injured person shows improvement. Cease use of the remedy when complaints have reduced considerably.
