Retin-A, also known as tretinoin, is a medication originally designed to treat acne, but as of 2010 is used to treat a variety of skin conditions. The medication comes in topical cream, gel or liquid form.

Usage

Use Retin-A on your arms to improve skin texture and hyper pigmentation. Because the medication removes the top layer of your skin and promotes collagen production, you will see new, healthier skin sooner. It can help sun-damaged skin, including age discoloration spots and light freckling, but count on using it for seven weeks until you see results.

Application

Retin-A is used no more than once daily, in the evenings, after cleaning the skin with a mild, non-medicated and alcohol-free soap. It should be applied 20 to 30 minutes after the skin is cleaned to make sure the skin is fully dry. Use clean finger tips, cotton swabs or gauze pads. Ask your doctor how to apply it if label instructions are unclear and always use sunscreen on the arms.

Considerations

Stop using Retin-A and consult with you doctor if you experience excessive dryness, red or scaly skin, eczema flare-ups or blisters and swelling. Never apply Retin-A on broken skin. The reactions might occur because you use a concentration strength unsuitable for your skin.
