The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse In Leo: What You Need To Know

By Jaliessa Sipress

At 5:27am PST on January 31st, eclipse season will commence with a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Leo.

What is a Lunar Eclipse?

A Lunar Eclipse is a time when the Moon is bathed in the Earth's shadow as the two celestial bodies share the same ecliptic pathway. Usually during a Full Moon, the Moon's face is illuminated, but during a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, the moon is hidden from view.

What does this mean?

Full Moon's mark the end of a lunar cycle. They are a reflection of all you have built and nurtured. Their fullness also signifies a time to let go of what you can no longer take with you at this point on your journey forward.

A Lunar Eclipse is a super-purge. It is high-potency Full Moon energy that leaves nothing untouched and can offer us exactly the time and space we need to uncover some of our life's greatest mysteries.

What does this particular Lunar Eclipse have in store for me?

This Lunar Eclipse falls in the Sun-ruled sign of Leo. Leo is a fire sign whose ultimate trajectory is to self-express and project light and life into the world around it. Leo sees itself as the Sun, the producer of life and illumination. The combination of this sign's luminous energy paired with the darkness of a Lunar Eclipse may seem contradictory, and it is.

A Leo's light is sourced from self-esteem and acknowledgement of its talents and offerings to the world that make the world better and brighter. A push in the direction of criticality tends to make Leo's energy spin out and become defensive. Leo wants to focus on what it will be loved for and not what will make it unappealing or outcasted. But the eclipse wants us to pay attention to just that, and own it.

This Lunar Eclipse may reveal your true nature. It may show you to yourself (and may already have been for a few weeks now). It may do this in the form of uncomfortable conversations with those closest to you, a sudden break from a situation, or through other, more subtle means. Regardless of how it shows up externally, a Lunar Eclipse is an internal phenomenon, one to sit with and affirm.

The Lunar Eclipse shrouds us in darkness because it wants to give us space to do our shadow-work; the type of self-work that is often ugly, hard and easiest to do in the dark. In truth, this Moon wants nothing more from you that to just feel.

During this eclipse season, lean into all of the feelings you have been pushing off in hopes of "starting fresh" in the new year. Suspend all expectations about what you should or should not be doing or feeling or expressing and just aim to exist in a space of embodiment. When it comes to hard feelings, the only way out is through and the eclipse has come to act as your guide through the process. So, when things start to get hard on the 31st (or anytime before and after) commit to working through all that arises as it arises. When you adopt this approach, the eclipse has no choice but to bring you all of the growth and transformation you need, leaving you strong, glowing and ready for anything that comes your way.
