What Is the Best Instant Face-Lift Serum?

By Dan Ketchum

According to statistics compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2013, the average facelift surgery costs about $6,556, including surgeon's fee, hospital bills and medical tests. For a fraction of the cost, instant facelift serums aim to achieve similar results without the need to go under the knife. These lightweight serums contain a higher concentration of anti-aging ingredients -- such as antioxidants, proteins and collagen boosters -- than regular moisturizers, so they can firm fine lines quickly after application.

While they all aim to firm the skin, face-lift serums offer different strengths.

Budget Solutions

For a value-priced instant lift, Amanda Montell of Total Beauty gives L'Oreal Paris RevitaLift Double Lifting serum high marks for its overnight firming, pore-tightening and hydrating abilities. The serum cost less than $15 as of 2014. In the category of instant wrinkle smoothers, Dr. LeWinn by Kinerase Instant Dermal Wrinkle Filler -- which retails for around $25 -- takes home the Silver medal in Good Housekeeping's 2013 Anti-Aging Awards. The magazine writer enjoyed the serum's pen-like applicator and effectiveness against crow's feet and forehead wrinkles.

Mid-Range Options

Starting at around $65, as of 2014 prices, Darphin Hydraskin Intensive Skin Hydrating Serum comes with a seal of approval from "Woman and Home," which said this intensive rehydrating serum instantly restores flexibility and softness to dry skin in particular. For about $10 more, the staff at Today Style and Total Beauty recommended Chanel Precision Hydramax + Active Serum Active Moisture Boost, touting the product's instant hydration and smoothing ability.

High-Level Lift

Near the top of the price heap, "Elle" praised Prevage from Elizabeth Arden. This serum features the exclusive ingredient Arazine and claims to reverse the effects of environmental damage and reduce the signs of aging within 15 minutes. For instant elimination of fine lines in near the mouth and eyes, the same source suggests Sunday Riley Perfecting Stem-Cell Serum. These products retailed for about $225 to $295 in 2014.

More to Consider

For a fast-working alternative to serums, Grandparents.com suggests Black Soy Lifting Treatment Pads from Wei. A gentle, natural treatment for mature skin, these pads rely on collagen-boosting amino acids and proteins to firm skin within a day. Look for serums with hyaluronic acid for an instant plumping effect that lasts for up to 24 hours, and wash your face with cool water to constrict the blood vessels, creating a tightening effect that reduces puffiness.
