What Is a Rubber Scraper Used For?

Rubber scrapers allow you to gather every bit of dough from a board or batter from a bowl, helping make sure none of the goodness goes to waste. The scrapers typically fall into one of two categories:

• Scrapers without a handle, also called bench scrapers or dough scrapers. These scrapers gather up chopped foods or dough. Metal bench scrapers serve only that one purpose, while rubber bench scrapers have other uses too.
  
• Spatulas with a long handle and smallish scraping end, sometimes also called rubber scrapers. Use these in bowls, pans and electric mixers to gather or consolidate batter, dough and more.

Many rubber spatulas are in fact made from silicone, allowing you to scrape foods in a hot pan or stir a very hot liquid without fear of the spatula melting.
