Clogged arteries cause heart attacks and strokes. It can be hard to know when your arteries are clogged because there are few symptoms. Orange pekoe tea may help prevent and possibly reverse artery clogging. Tea Benefits reports that, "In a recent test, Joseph Vita, M.D., of the Boston University School of Medicine, had heart patients drink either plain water or four cups of black tea daily. In a month, impaired blood vessel functioning (a risk factor for heart attack and strokes) improved about 50 percent (in those who drank black tea)." Though these results are promising, it's important to keep taking your conventional heart medicine.

Tea can benefit health.

Inflammation is a painful symptom of many diseases. There are many medicines that can treat inflammation, but if you want a more natural treatment, orange pekoe tea may help. Research at Rutgers has shown that the anti-cancer compound TF-2 suppresses the Cox-2 gene, which can trigger inflammation. TF-2 is found in orange pekoe and other black teas.

Drinking tea may make breathing easier.

Respiratory diseases, such as asthma, reduce the amount of oxygen your body needs to distribute the energy from food. Professor's House reports that orange pekoe tea may help treat many respiratory diseases with a chemical called theophylline. This stimulant helps expand the airway, making breathing easier.
