In a study in Obstetrics and Gynecology, progesterone cream was shown to significantly reduce hot flashes in women as compared to placebo. Exercise such as walking and yoga can also make a significant difference. Unlike other natural remedies, exercise can be done for free and without side effects. Another alternative is a preparation made from red clover called Promensil.


Some natural remedies for hot flashes have not been tested, thus placing their effectiveness in dispute. When trying a new remedy for hot flashes, always note how you feel as opposed to how you felt before you made the change. If you don't experience any improvement, switch to a different natural remedy.

Check with the FDA to see if that remedy has been approved. Also see if there have been any reports of adverse reactions to the remedy in question. Also, taking more than 400 international units (IU) of vitamin E may be dangerous. Call your doctor immediately if you experience an adverse reaction to any alternative remedy.
