Cranberries, also known as American cranberry or bog berries, are used to prevent urinary tract infections as well as prevent bacterial infections such as E. coli. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine asserts that cranberries have both antioxidant and anticancer properties. Cranberry juice and cranberry pills are effective in detoxifying the body of harmful and often cancer-causing toxins, as well as eliminating free radicals that cause disease and advanced aging.

Seek the consent of your physician. Detoxification of the body is healthy only when a patient is healthy to begin with. Certain health complications, such as diabetes, make fasting and detoxifying the body dangerous. During this detoxification regimen, do not consume any foods. Drink 100-percent juice, as well as juices made at home with a juicer. Limit fruit and vegetable consumption to juice to help cleanse the body.

Drink 8 oz. of cranberry juice first thing in the morning. If the unsweetened juice is too bitter, use cranberry pills or powdered versions. Or mix one part cranberry juice with one part 100-percent apple juice to dilute the taste slightly. Drink at least three glasses of juice each day in place of meals.

Take a cranberry pill. Cranberry supplements or pills offer detox participants an opportunity to jump-start their cleansing regimen. The pills have a concentrated amount of antioxidants that deliver all the benefits of cranberry juice without having to actually drink the juice. Use these pills in conjunction with the cranberry juice. Take three pills daily in between glasses of cranberry juice.

Drink plenty of water. During any detoxification regimen, it is important to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water between 8-oz. glasses of cranberry juice or cranberry supplements also flushes toxins out of the body.

Add fiber. For optimal detoxification benefits, incorporate fiber into the regimen after the first day. Fiber helps push out waste material that is lodged in the colon. In addition, fiber helps to curb any hunger and provides bulk to loosen stools.

Incorporate food back into your diet. When you end the detoxification process, bring foods back slowly. Start with a piece of fruit and work up to eating vegetables. Do not begin eating dairy, eggs or meat products until you feel that your body can handle them. Because these foods are harder to break down, your digestive system may need some time to adjust.

Tips

  • During a cranberry juice detoxification regimen, do not schedule any strenuous activities. Because very few calories are being consumed, the body cannot safely conduct rigorous exercises. The excess amounts of cranberry juice may cause stomach pains, loose stools or flatulence. These symptoms may make social and extracurricular activities uncomfortable.
