Those annoying dry patches along your hairline may be treated with a few simple changes to your daily hair care. Causes for the dry patches might be as simple as using the wrong shampoo, or not rinsing thoroughly after shampooing. Even the temperature of the water you use can make a difference in the health and vitality of your hair and scalp.

Switch to an herbal shampoo containing tea-tree oil, shea butter and urea. These ingredients are important for healthy hair and provide additional moisturizing benefits. Herbal shampoos are found at beauty-supply stores and hair salons.

Choose a conditioner compatible with your shampoo. After shampooing, rub the conditioner into your scalp and hairline for extra moisture.

Rinse your hair and scalp thoroughly after shampooing and conditioning. Leftover shampoo and conditioner can leave a residue on your scalp and hairline that appears to be flaky skin.

Rinse shampoo and conditioner from your hair and scalp with cool or warm water rather than hot water. Hot water strips the moisture from your hair causing dryness.

Use an oil treatment on your hair at least once a week. Rinse your hair with warm water, then place a small amount (about 1/4 cup) of olive, coconut or almond oil into the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together until the oil is warm. Massage your scalp with the oil and run your hands through your hair to cover it with the oil. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, rinse and shampoo your hair as usual.
