Blackheads are an embarrassing part of life for most teens, and for some adults. And for some reason they always seem to appear right before a big event. Makeup doesn’t do a very good job of covering them, and may even make them worse by clogging the skin’s pores. Fortunately, there are several possible remedies for clearing up blackheads in just one day, and you can make them using ingredients you likely already have.

Things You'll Need

One-Step Solutions

Apply toothpaste to the affected area and let it sit through the night. Wash it off in the morning.

Steam your face by sitting in the bathroom with the shower on at the hottest setting for 15 minutes to open your pores. Wash your face thoroughly afterward with warm water and a gentle face wash .

Make a paste of almond powder and rose water by adding almond powder to rose water until the mixture has the consistency of toothpaste. Dab the paste on the affected area and let it sit for five minutes before washing it off.

Grate raw potatoes and apply them as a face mask, covering the affected areas. Let sit for five minutes, then wash it off.

Wax the affected area the same way you would wax your legs with a leg waxing kit. Follow the directions on the waxing kit.

Iodine Salt Mixture

Mix 1 tsp. Epsom salt with 1/4 cup hot water.

Add four drops of iodine to the salt water.

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and apply the pasty liquid to your face or the affected area.

When the paste is dry on your face, remove it by gently wiping your face with a damp cloth.

Boric Remedy

Mix 1/2 cup hot water and enough boric powder to make a thick paste.

Dip a facial cleansing cloth into the paste and spend five minutes patting the paste onto your face before washing it off.

Let the mixture sit for about five minutes.

Rub down your face with a dry cotton ball.

Rinse your face with warm water.

  • Wash your pillows and bedding so that any face oil in your bedding doesn’t affect the treatment.
Drink plenty of water to prevent blackheads from returning.
