Homemade Alpha Lipoid Acid Beauty Lotion

Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is an antioxidant that is touted as skin revitalizer, anti-wrinkle remedy and texturizer. Skin creams and lotions that contain alpha lipoic acid are now available at most health food stores, skin care shops and on the Internet, often at very high prices. Fortunately, you can buy the raw ingredients and make several months' worth yourself. Buy the alpha lipoic acid powder and your favorite moisturizing oil in bulk online, and you will be able to make your own lotion in just a few easy steps.

Make Your Own Alpha Lipoic Acid Lotion

Fill the small saucepan with water to make a water bath, which will be used to melt the raw ingredients. Put the saucepan on the burner on medium heat until it boils.

Combine 1/2 cup of wax and 1/2 cup of oil into the 1 cup measuring cup, and pour the ingredients into the boiling water.

Fill the medium-size saucepan with water and put on stove until it boils. Fill the 2-cup measuring cup halfway with boiling water.

Pour the combined melted wax and oil into the hot water, and stir until it has the consistency of milk and is uniform in color.

Stir in 2 tsp of the alpha lipoic acid, and mix well. Do this while the lotion is still hot and has a milk-like consistency.

Let the alpha lipoic acid lotion cool slightly, and then pour it into the lotion bottles, Use a funnel if necessary.

Seal the lotion bottle, and shake vigorously for a couple of minutes. Let cool to room temperature. Store the ALA skin lotion in a cool, dry place until you are ready to use it.

  • It is also easy to scent an alpha lipoic acid skin lotion with essential oils like lemon or lavender by adding 4 to 8 drops to the lotion mixture before the final cooling and mixing stage.
