Hy-Vee is a popular grocery store scattered throughout much of the Midwestern United States. Aside from the usual groceries, Hy-Vee stores also have in-store bakeries which offer cakes, cookies and bread, among several other baked goods. Over the years, this store has grown a reputation for their delicious dessert frosting. Fans of Hy-Vee frosting no longer have to go to the store to get access to the delicious treat as it can be made from home with minimal, inexpensive ingredients.

Chocolate Frosting

Add ¾ cups of melted butter and 1 cup of powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients together with a whisk until it forms an even consistency.

Add 2 cups of powdered sugar and ¼ cup of 2 percent milk to the bowl. Whisk ingredients to an even consistency.

Add another 2 cups of powdered sugar and ¼ cup of 2 percent milk to the bowl. Mix in 1 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract and whisk the mixture until it reaches a desired consistency.

Sugar Cookie Frosting

Add 2 cups powdered sugar, ¼ cup vegetable shortening, 3 tbsp water and 1 tsp almond extract to a mixing bowl.

Whisk the ingredients together until it forms a thick, spreadable consistency. While often used for cookies, this frosting also works for cakes.

Add food coloring and mix it in with the frosting, if desired. Two to five drops of food coloring should be enough to achieve a bold color.

White Buttercream Frosting

Add 4 cups powdered sugar and ½ cup melted butter to a mixing bowl. Whisk together until smooth.

Pour 2 tbsp skim milk into the mixing bowl while whisking the ingredients. Continue whisking until it forms a desired consistency.

Add 2 tsp vanilla extract and whisk for an additional 20 seconds.

Hy-Vee recommends the use of their own products for the recipes, but other brands can be used as well.
