Whip up a batch of your own barbecue sauce using ketchup and a few other common ingredients. This sauce goes great with chicken or ribs and can be cooked on the grill or the stovetop. Tweak the ingredients to suit your taste. For example, add hot sauce for a little kick or adjust the sugar or more or less sweetness.
Things You'll Need
Grab a saucepan and put it on the stovetop or grill over medium-low heat.
Add 1/2 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon red or white vinegar, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon lemon juice or 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest, and 2 tablespoons butter.
Stir all ingredients until melted and blended together.
You are encouraged to adjust portions of all ingredients to suit your taste.
If you want your sauce to be less sweet add less brown sugar.
If you’re watching your fat intake, add less or omit the butter.
Do not be tempted to add salt-there’s a lot of salt in Worcestershire sauce.
Add Tabasco sauce if you like things spicy.
