How to make creamy vegan cheese sauce with nutritional yeast

Vegan foods contain no meat or dairy products. Creamy, cheeselike vegan sauce is simple to make and takes only 10 minutes. The key ingredient is nutritional yeast flakes, which are available at most health food stores in the bulk bin or baking section. Whether you want a vegan dish or just a more healthful dish, this versatile sauce is ideal for pasta, pizza, casseroles, nachos, dips and anything else that calls for a creamy sauce.

Step 1

Mix together nutritional yeast flakes, flour and cornstarch in a saucepan or pot until just mixed.

Step 2

Stir water with the yeast flakes, flour and cornstarch for five to seven minutes over medium heat until the consistency begins to thicken.

Step 3

Blend in yellow mustard and salt.

Step 4

Add pepper, oregano, basil and garlic to taste.

Step 5

Turn off the heat.

Step 6

Mix in olive oil or vegan margarine.
