There are simple remedies to help heal your black eye whether you got it playing baseball, practicing martial arts or through a fall or an accident. Reduce the swelling, take vitamin C and try not to aggravate the eye or eye area. You can do all of this and still be left with a shiner. If you need to conceal your black eye, there are some simple tips for using makeup in ways that will hide your black eye while still looking natural.

Things You'll Need

Heal

Apply a cold pack to the eye immediately. This will reduce blood flow to the area and prevent swelling. While a cold steak will take down the swelling, it is only the cold you are looking for. Use a bag of frozen vegetables or crushed ice wrapped in a washcloth as a more economic cold pack. Hold the cold pack to the area for 10 minutes, then remove it for 10 minutes. Keep cycling the cold pack this way to avoid damaging the skin around your eye. Do this throughout the first 48 hours after the injury. If your eye is swollen shut, do not try to force it open. Let the cold pack take the swelling down.

Take acetaminophen. This will reduce swelling and pain. Do not take acetylsalicylic acid, as it is an anti-coagulant and will keep your blood from clotting. Take acetaminophen according to the dosage instructions on the label.

Eat papaya. Papaya contains enzymes that enables blood to be absorbed by the body, which can reduce bruising. Eat three papayas a day, or take up to 600 mgs a day of papaya capsules.

Increase your intake of vitamin C. Vitamin C can reduce bruising and speed healing. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin C, such as broccoli and peppers.

Apply a heated pack to your eye 48 hours after the injury occurs. Use a microwavable bean bag, a heating pad or a washcloth soaked in hot water. Apply the heated pack to the area for 15 minutes, then remove it for 15 minutes. Continue cycling the heated pack this way. This will improve circulation in the area. Do this throughout the day.
