In addition to its typical cooking uses, olive oil can be used in other ways as well. For instance, you can dye it to add an extra flair to a creation. You may want to dye olive oil to make a colored salad dressing or to dye eggs.
Place 3/4 cup olive oil in a small dish. For the best results, extra-light olive oil is recommended because it has the least color and will take dye the best.
Heat the olive oil in the microwave oven on "high" power for 90 seconds so it becomes hot. Dye dissolves better in hot oil.
Place one drop of food coloring in the olive oil. That will be plenty of dye since it doesn't dissolve in the oil. Stir the oil and dye quickly with a teaspoon for several minutes.
Use the olive oil when the food coloring dye has broken up into tiny drops throughout the oil.
The dye will not dissolve completely as it does in other liquids.
