Dry roasting is a process where heat is applied to foodstuffs without the use of oil. The dry roasting process is commonly used with foods such as nuts or seeds. According to the Journal of Nutrition, the pistachio nut is high in compounds lutein and beta-carotene, which serve as healthy benefactors in eye health.
Shell the pistachio nuts by hand, discarding the shells afterward.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Spread the dry pistachios evenly onto a baking sheet and place them inside the oven.
Stir the pistachios occasionally to ensure they are evenly roasted and lightly browned. Roasting time is 5 to 10 minutes.
Remove the pistachios from the oven and place them on a plate to allow them to cool. Sprinkle salt on the nuts, if desired.
Tip
To roast pistachios as opposed to dry roasting them, lightly and evenly coat the nuts with cooking oil before placing them inside the oven.
