By Karen M Holt

You've spent the day outdoors and paid the price with a sunburn. How can you relieve the itching? You may find what you need in your own home.

Soak It Up

To reduce swelling, soak in a cool tub. Add oatmeal to relieve itching.

From the Pantry

Make a paste with cornstarch and water. Apply to the itchy area for a few minutes and rinse well.

Got Milk Products?

Many remedies include yogurt. Apply plain yogurt to burned skin for a few minutes. Stand in a bathtub when you apply the yogurt, as this could get messy.

Mix 1 part milk to 4 parts water to relieve pain. Or soak in a milk and water bath to relieve itching.

Natural Pain Relievers

Homeopathic remedies such as witch hazel and lavender provide relief from itching and pain. Squeeze the gel out of aloe vera plants to apply to itchy skin.

Other Liquids

One cup of apple cider vinegar in a bathtub full of water reduces the itching and pain of sunburn.
