Natural remedies baking soda and lemon

Hyperpigmentation occurs when certain areas of the skin become darker or thicker than others. This discoloration can make the skin appear unbalanced and uneven. In order to lighten and remove skin discolorations and hyperpigmentation on the skin, you can use a few natural and effective home remedies.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a powerful exfoliant that is very alkaline in nature. Its particles are rounded and fine in texture, making it both effective and gentle on the skin. Using baking soda as an exfoliating scrub will remove dead skin cells, which can be discolored from hyperpigmentation and scarring. To use a baking soda scrub, combine 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of water. Mix the two together until a paste is formed, and massage the paste onto the skin using small, circular motions. After around 20-30 seconds, rinse the area well with water.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is very acidic, and contains high levels of vitamin C, which can fight off free radicals and increase the speed of cell turnover. This can help the skin grown new skin cells to replace the hyperpigmented skin cells. You can use lemon juice on the skin in its full strength up to three times per day. To apply lemon juice to discolored skin, fill an empty, clean spray bottle with concentrated lemon juice, and spray the areas of hyperpigmentation. Allow the skin to air dry.

Facial Steaming

Regular facial steaming can loosen dead skin cells so that they can be sloughed away easily. Facial steaming is extremely detoxifying and should only be used once per week. To give yourself a facial steam, fill a large bowl with nearly boiling water. Lean over the bowl, making sure that you do not go any closer than 12 inches. Cover the head with a towel, and allow the steam to billow over the skin for 5-7 minutes. Rinse well with cool water afterward.

Oatmeal is high in vitamin E, and can both exfoliate the skin and moisturize it. This will help soften dead skin cells as well as help slough them away. It is easy to apply oats to the skin; simply wet the skin thoroughly, then massage raw oats onto the skin for around 1 minute. Rinse well with water.

Olive Oil

Massaging and cleansing the skin with olive oil can hydrate the skin and loosen skin that is hyperpigmented. Cleansing the skin with olive oil has been a method of cleansing used by the ancients for thousands of years, and can clean the skin deeply with the use of soap to help balance out skin tone and remove places of discoloration. Simply massage olive oil onto the skin for 2-3 minutes, then place a steaming cloth onto the skin, letting the steam penetrate the pores. After the cloth cools, wipe away the excess oils and dead skin with the cloth.
