Coconut Oil Mouth Treatment

By Kendall Olsen

A coconut oil mouth treatment involves following a few steps in order to swish oil in the mouth for health. This is also called oil pulling because certain oils are said to have "pulling" or "drawing" properties that help release toxins from the body through the mouth and gums. Once the oil is expelled, bacteria and toxins are disposed, which can lead to improved health.

According to the Coconut Research Center, several studies published in medical journals have confirmed that coconut oil kills bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses. Additionally, coconut oil is often used in the treatment of a variety of infections and illnesses, including urinary tract infections, influenza, measles, hepatitis and pneumonia.

Swish and pull oil through the teeth for 15-20 min.

To improve health and treat illnesses and conditions, coconut pulling is recommended by physicians, alternative medicine specialists and nutritionists. Pull coconut oil before eating breakfast in the morning. Place 1 tbsp. of a good-quality coconut oil in the mouth, taking care not to swallow it. Move the oil slowly around the mouth through swishing and by pulling it through the teeth. Move through the mouth for 15 to 20 minutes or until the oil turns white. Keeping the oil moving for several minutes is important because it is prolonged swishing that gives the oil enough time to react with saliva so that its enzymes are released to pull toxins from the body. Once the oil is expelled from the mouth, brush your teeth well to eliminate bacteria and other impurities from the body.

Oil pulling should be completed once a day for maximum benefit and improved health.
