Benefits of Celery

Celery has long been a health food staple, and it retains a number of benefits for those who eat it. Though it doesn't contain all the nutrients required for a healthy diet and should be taken in conjunction with other foods, the benefits to consuming it are easily identifiable. It makes for an important part of any healthy regimen.

Celery contains vitamin C, as well as vitamins B1, B6, potassium, folic acid and calcium.

High Fiber

Celery is high in fiber, which helps clear out the colon and promote healthy digestion.


Because celery is composed mostly of water, it has almost no calories. It is an excellent food for between-meal snacking.


Celery contains coumarins, which are compounds that lower blood pressure and promote a healthy circulatory system.

Kidney Problems

Celery is a diuretic, which enhances urination and facilitates the removal of water from the body. It helps the kidneys and heart, as well as tissue swelling (edema).
