In an all-new #WakeUpWith episode, we had the pleasure of stepping into Mona Don's Beverly Hills home. Mona is the founder of Vie Healing, a holistic health care practice & tea/supplement company (you can find here), an acupuncturist, herbalist and mama. In this episode, Mona's dishing on everything you need to know when getting in touch with your health, from tongue readings to cold vs. warm foods. Take a look:

As an acupuncturist, Mona is the #1 person to ask about the interesting topic of "tongue reading" (more here). "The tongue is the only external organ we have to let us really know what's going on internally," says Mona. "If you look at my tongue in the back, there's a little yellow which shows that there's heat in the body, that means I need to be really careful about choosing hydrating, cooling foods. You can see some cracks which means I'm a little dehydrated. It's also a little quivery, which shows the state of my muscles and organs, it shows I'm a little fatigued."
First, Mona takes a few of her Detox supplements to remedy what she noticed during her tongue reading. Then comes breakfast, and this is one of the most delicious breakfast recipes we've tried in awhile. And it's made from cauliflower! Here's the recipe:
- Heat 1 cup riced cauliflower with 1/2 cup almond milk on the stovetop until creamy (like oatmeal!)
- Top with your favorite seasonal toppings! Mona included bananas, persimmons, kiwi berries, dates, raspberries, cacao nibs, hemp seeds, granola and almond butter
On morning food & drinks: "When you wake up, so do your adrenals. When you put an ice cold drink or coffee into your system first thing, that shocks the adrenals and they shift from processing mode to fight or flight mode. They stress out. When the adrenals are stressed, they release cortisol which is our "take care" hormone that stores fat. To avoid this, start the day with warm tea or matcha with a warm breakfast like eggs or this cauliflower breakfast bowl. If you love protein shakes, make a little and pour it into the cauliflower bowl so that you have the taste but you're consuming it warm. After you've had your meal is the best time to enjoy coffee. Our internal body temperature is just like the outside world. If we don't like living in a cold freezing room, our organs don't either. We want to nurture our organs by giving it a cozy environment. "
