What is a New Moon?

A New Moon occurs when the Moon slides in-between the Sun and Earth and is casted in shadow, the Moon's face hidden from view.

What does the New Moon represent?

The New Moon is the first phase in the Lunar Cycle. As this phase ushers in a new cycle, it also ushers in fresh energy for us to work through challenges old and new.

How can I work with the New Moon?

Acknowledging and honoring the darkness of the Moon as a time to clear out and re-asses better equips us to accept new opportunities with open arms. When we can acknowledge what needs to be changed or emptied we can refill according to what makes us feel whole. Our decisions then can become products of deep self-awareness instead of anxiety or fear.

What does this particular New Moon have to offer?

New Moons are a great time to set specific intentions and attempt to manifest situations that will bring about abundance. This particular New Moon occurs in earth sign Virgo and is in alignment with the abundance that comes from order and routine. Although Virgo is a detail-oriented sign, this New Moon will be a little murky. So, try to keep your expectations in check and clarify the big-picture.

If you have been wanting to implement a new routine or dietary change, just make sure it is something you will actually be able to stick to. If the routine is not working after a week has come and gone, throw it out and try and different approach. Although Virgo is an earth sign, it is mutable (a term for the signs that straddle a seasonal transition). To adapt some of Virgo's intelligence is to recognize that life and all cycles within it come in seasons, and fall is a hard one for a lot of us.

Pushing through transition is sometimes fussy, fidgety and uncomfortable, but that is where the growth lies. Focus on your commitment to change and less on the technique you use to get there. Give yourself some room to breathe. We could all use release from the pressure of perfection. Things have been hard lately and this New Moon calls for a collective deep breath. Remember that perfection can easily become a moving target and committing to an unattainable ideal is always unfair. Reflect and zero in on your natural ebbs and flows and you will find the sweet spot for making the most out of whatever you decide to try.
