Mohawks are attention-grabbing hairstyles that scream, “I am a risk taker.” There are several variations of black Mohawk hairstyles for men and women. Some still shave the sides while others braid the sides. The Mohawk itself can be left in its natural curly condition or straightened with a chemical relaxer for a more polished look.

Mohawk with Braided Sides

Both sides of the hair are braided flat against the scalp using very small thin braids. Unique designs and patterns can be created with the braids. The center strip of the hair is left out to create the Mohawk look. This style can be worn by men and women.

Mohawk with Shaved Sides

The hair length on the sides can vary depending on the individual’s preference. It can be shaved bald or cut really low. The center strip is normally left about four inches long or shorter. The center strip can be permed to create a straight spiky look or left in its curly natural state.

Woman’s Mohawk

The woman’s Mohawk is created with long and short hair. To create a short Mohawk, gel is applied to the sides to get it to lay flat. Those wishing to get a little creative can use little pin curls on the sides using gel by taking small pieces of hair and creating circles, securing them with pin curl clips until it dries. The center strip is combed straight up and angled slightly forward. The middle strip can also be roller set to create a curly Mohawk style.
