Purple Mixed Drinks

By Jordan Whitehouse

Themed drinks can be a unique way to enhance a party's atmosphere. Whether you're looking for purple drinks to celebrate the guest of honor's favorite color or to match the decor, there are a number of liqueurs and mixes that can achieve a range of purple hues. Luckily, there are some liqueurs like Hpnotiq Harmonie and creme de cassis that are purple right out of the bottle; however, purple drinks can also come from creative combinations of blue and red mixes and liqueurs.

Auld Alliance

Earthy scotch balances the sweet and fruity black current liqueur creme de cassis, which lightens to a deep purple when mixed with the other ingredients. In a cocktail shaker, combine:

  • 2 ounces scotch
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce creme de cassis
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 drop orange bitters
  • 1 egg white

Shake vigorously without ice for 30 to 60 seconds, until the egg white becomes frothy. Add ice and shake again for 20 seconds to chill the drink, then strain it into a stemmed cocktail glass. Garnish with a citrus twist or summer berry.

Adult Punch

Mimic an old favorite with this fruit punch-inspired cocktail. Pour 1 ounce each of vodka and blue curacao, and 1/2 ounce of grenadine over ice in a rocks glass. Stir to mix and garnish with an orange slice for a bright purple treat.

The Dazzler

This simple cocktail is perfect for a celebration. Combine 2 ounces each of Hpnotiq Harmonie and champagne in a champagne flute for a fizzy light purple drink that's ideal for toasting.

Serve this hearty martini during appetizers and be prepared for this nutrient-rich deep purple drink to fuel your guests into the evening. In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine:

  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1 ounce beet juice
  • 1/2 ounce blueberry juice (or other blue-colored juice)
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice

Shake until chilled, about 30 to 60 seconds, then strain into a martini glass.

Blueberry Iced Tea

To put a chill on the classic hot Blueberry Tea cocktail, while adding natural blueberry coloring for a vibrant-looking drink, start with a tall glass filled halfway with crushed ice. Then, add 2 ounces each of amaretto and blueberry syrup. Top off the glass with club soda and garnish with fresh blueberries.
