Since 1992, Yves Saint Laurent’s (YSL) Touche Eclat has been one of the more popular highlighters, revered in periodicals such as “The Independent” and “Allure Magazine”. Highlighters are shimmering makeup, available in liquid or powder, used to help deflect light from targeted areas. The liquid form is often mistaken for concealer– a product that covers up blemishes and discoloration. The YSL Touche Eclat is one of the most well-known highlighters, and an essential for makeup artists and red-carpet-ready celebrities.
Things You'll Need
Hydrate the skin with a moisturizer and eye cream. Even liquid foundations can dry the skin through the course of the day, according to Robert Tornambe and Karen Moline’s book “The Beauty Quotient Formula.” Properly moisturizing the face after cleansing, with the use of face and eye creams, can help the foundation and highlighter to remain moist, and keep the skin more hydrated for a longer.
Apply liquid foundation, using the makeup sponge to distribute the product across the face.. Select a non-comedogenic formula for everyday use, which means the foundation is less likely to clog pores. A makeup sponge, or sometimes a foundation brush, is often used to distribute the foundation evenly over any imperfections.
Brush on the YSL Touche Eclat under the eyes to help bounce light off any under eye circles. Though a highlighter isn’t a concealer, it can sometimes perform a similar function when reflecting light off of naturally dark areas. The YSL highlighter has a built in brush applicator, so there’s no need for another makeup brush. Paint a semi-circle around the eyes starting above the inner corner, passing the inner part of the eye, to the under eye area. Massage the product into the area with finger tips or makeup sponge.
Use the highlighter to balance out wrinkles. One anti-aging beauty tip is to use YSL Touche Eclat in the dark crevices of the face to brighten them, thus making the skin look more youthful. This works with laugh lines around the nose and lips. After brushing on the product directly on the wrinkle, blend it in with the finger tips.
Dab YSL Touche Eclat across the brow and cheek bone to help give the face a more sculpted look. To further accentuate the face’s structure, paint little strike marks at the area where the eyes meet the cheeks. This is a spot where light should naturally hit the face, but it can be emphasized with the use of highlighter.
Paint a bit of the highlighter down the nose bridge, at the temples and upper lip area to finish sculpting the face. A thin line of YSL Touche Eclat drawn down the nose can help it to appear slimmer and more chiseled. Additionally a couple of dabs at the temples can help round out the face. As an added bonus, the top of the lip’s bow can also be dotted with highlighter, a makeup trick that can help accentuate pale or nude lip color shades. Like before, blend the product in so that it works seamlessly with the foundation.
Complete the face makeup with a dusting of loose translucent powder. Setting the foundation and YSL Touche Eclat with powder is important so that the makeup stays put. Face powders is available in loose and pressed forms, both of which are effective. Use the large fluffy face brush to apply the powder — the finishing touch to highlighting process.
Liquid foundations work well with a liquid-based highlighter, such as YSL Touche Eclat, because it is easy to blend the two products together.
The product can be painted in dashes right under the eyebrows, which will help open the eye area, and brighten bone structure.
