A perfect tan is one of the most stylish things people can wear, but dangers of skin cancer can keep many people from obtaining a golden glow. Spray tanning mixes are a popular solution to get a nice tan without any dangerous side effects. Trips to a tanning salon for a spray tan can quickly become expensive, so many people choose to make their own spray tan mix at home.

Pour 3/4 cup of water into a clean glass beaker. Add 3/4 tbsp. of the tanning agent dihydroxyacetone (also known as DHA) and 1 tsp. of the tanning agent erythrulose to the water in the beaker. Mix the solution until fully dissolved.

Add 1 tbsp. of an emollient, such as triglyceride, to the mix and stir until well-blended.

Add 60 drops of preservative phenoxyethanol and 15 drops of a fragrance to the beaker and mix thoroughly.

Adjust the pH of the mixture until it is at at pH of four. The pH can be adjusted by adding small amounts of citric acid to the solution. Do not add more then 1/16 tsp. at a time.

Test the pH of the mixture with pH strips or a pH pen.
