Sweetened condensed milk is used in many recipes, especially desserts. It can be frustrating to begin a recipe only to find that you’re out of the store-bought cans of condensed milk. However, you can easily make condensed milk at home using a recipe that is quick, inexpensive, and does not involve any cooking involved. It does not matter whether you use a mixer or a blender because the results are the same. This recipe is equivalent to one 14-oz can.

Things You'll Need

Pour 1 cup nonfat dry milk and 3/4 cup sugar in a medium-sized bowl if using a mixer. If using a blender, place these dry ingredients directly into the blender.

Add 1/3 cup of boiling water and 1/4 cup softened butter to the dry ingredients. The butter or margarine should be at room temperature.

Mix or blend until the mixture is creamy and no longer grainy. It will thicken as it sets.


  • Store condensed milk covered in the refrigerator and use within two weeks.

  • You can also store homemade condensed milk in the freezer. It won’t get frozen solid, but will be somewhat soft.

  • This recipe can be doubled or tripled.
