Budget-friendly DIY stud earrings amp up your wardrobe with custom style. To assemble your own, you need only a few supplies and basic crafting skills. This tutorial features three stud earrings made with different materials: flat-back gems, shank buttons and charms with dangling chains.


Things You’ll Need for Flat-Back Stud Earrings

  • Jewelry or metal glue
  • Blank earring posts and backings (2)
  • Flat-back gems (2)


Step 1

Glue one earring post to the back of each flat-back gem.


Step 2

Leave them to dry overnight.


Things You’ll Need for Shank-Button Earrings

  • Jewelry or metal glue
  • Shank buttons (2)
  • Blank earring posts and backings (2)
  • Shank remover


Step 1

Using the shank remover, cut off the loop from the back of the button.


Step 2

Continue trimming until you have a completely flat surface.


Step 3

Glue an earring post to the back of the button.


Step 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 with the second button. Leave them to dry overnight.


Things You’ll Need for Dangling Stud Earrings

*Jewelry or metal glue
*Flat charms (2)
*Chain scraps
*Blank earring posts and backings (2)
*4mm jump rings (2)
*Jewelry pliers


Step 1

Rotate the charms so the holes are on the bottom. Glue one earring post to the back of each charm.


Step 2

Using the jewelry pliers, open a 4mm jump ring.


Step 3

Add 4 to 6 strands of scrap chain.


Step 4

Connect the jump ring to the charm. Close the jump ring.


Step 5

Trim the ends of the chain to equal lengths.


Step 6

Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the second earring.
