Here is a great recipe for crackers that are similar to saltines. This recipe yields about 120 crackers.

Things You'll Need

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Combine flour, baking powder and shortening in a mixer. Once mixed, add milk and blend well.

Form a large round ball with the dough and split it into four separate sections.

Roll out one of the sections until it is about 1/8 of an inch thick.

Cut the dough into squares with a knife, pizza cutter or pastry roller with crinkled edges. Repeat with the three other sections.

Sprinkle salt (to taste) onto an ungreased cookie sheet and lay the dough on it. Using a fork, prick the dough repeatedly in 1/2-inch increments.

Bake for about 14-20 minutes, until the crackers are a golden brown.

  • You can add additional flavor to the crackers by adding garlic, onion powder, hot spice, dill and/or caraway seeds.
Instead of cutting the dough with a knife or pastry wheel, use cookie cutters to create fun shapes. This is especially good for theme parties.
If you do not have masa flour, you can use another cup of regular flour.
