Despite its name, hemp milk does not contain THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana plants. Rather, hemp nut milk is a highly nutritious alternative to cow and soy milk and is full of essential vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and protein. To make hemp milk, you need shelled hemp seeds, which are available at many health food stores.
Things You'll Need
Combine 1 quart of water, 1 cup hemp seeds and 1 tbsp. of natural sweetener in a blender. Honey, agave nectar, maple syrup and molasses are sweeteners that you can add to this milk recipe.
Blend the mixture until it reaches your desired consistency. Because hemp seeds are soft, the texture of your blended milk will be creamy.
Strain the blended mixture with a small-hole wire colander to remove seed particles. Refrigerate the hemp milk to keep it fresh, and use the hemp milk within three days to prevent spoiling.
Include 1 tsp. of vanilla extract to make vanilla milk and 1 tbsp. of chocolate powder for chocolate milk.
Once prepared, you can drink hemp milk plain, pour it on cereal, or use it in smoothie or dessert recipes.
