Hailed for its moisturizing and toning properties, papaya can be found in hundreds of over-the-counter skincare products. But you can also include this enzyme-rich fruit into your beauty routine by whipping up your very own facial mask. Not only is a DIY papaya mask fun to make and inexpensive, it’s also an easy way to bring a rich spa experience right to your home.

Assemble Ingredients and Mix

Use fresh papaya for this face mask — frozen or canned papaya can contain preservatives that reduce the effectiveness of the mask. Mix one mashed papaya with an egg to make the mask a little sticky. Add in one to two tablespoons of additional ingredients, like oatmeal, honey, yogurt, and mashed pineapple. Blend the mixture with a spoon, or puree it in a blender for a finer texture.

Application and Storage

Once the mask is made, apply it directly to freshly washed, exfoliated, and dried skin. Spread the mask evenly on your face, leaving it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Lightly moisturize your face to reduce dryness afterward, especially if you used granola. You can chill the mask in the fridge for about an hour before using if you want an especially relaxing experience. The mask can be stored in an sealed container for a day or two, but it is best used when fresh.
