Baking a cake from scratch is harder than just following a recipe. Ingredients must be added at the correct temperature and mixing must be done with just the right amount of force and time, otherwise the result can be dense and dry. Luckily, food companies have a solution in the form of a boxed cake mix, which anyone can prepare perfectly. By adding a few extra ingredients, you can bake a deliciously moist cake.

Things You'll Need

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease the cake pan with Baker’s Joy to prevent sticking.

Add all of the ingredients to the bowl, but substitute milk for half of the amount of oil called. If the directions call for 1 cup of milk, add 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup vegetable oil.

Mix well, according to the directions on the box.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, tapping it lightly on the counter to get rid of air bubbles.

Bake according to directions. Before removing cake from the oven, test for doneness by inserting a bamboo skewer into the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.

Allow cake to cool completely before frosting.
