The Cosmopolitan was made popular in the 1990s thanks to a certain cable TV show and paparazzi photographing celebrities with the drink in hand. It has a complex history and, depending on who you are talking to, could have been created by any one of a handful of different originators. Despite this, it is an easy drink to make and only contains a few ingredients.
Things You'll Need
Rub the rim of the martini glass with the lime wedge, then run the rim through sugar.
Combine 1 1/2 parts cranberry juice, 4 parts vodka, 1 part each triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup with ice in a cocktail shaker.
Shake the mixture for at least 30 seconds, then strain into a glass. Garnish with the orange peel.
You may use Rose’s lime juice instead of lime juice and simple syrup.
If you do not have triple sec, you may use Cointreau or any other orange-flavored liqueur instead.
To make simple syrup, combine 1 part sugar to 2 parts water. Simmer on medium heat until sugar melts into water and no crystals remain. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
