Collagen is a natural protein found in the body that promotes elasticity, while supporting structural strength to your body’s tissues. Although collagen exists in the muscles, bones and even blood vessels, most people associate it with the firmness and elasticity of the skin. As you age, your skin produces less collagen, resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin. It’s not possible for collagen to be absorbed through the skin, but ingredients containing vitamins A, C and E can stimulate the production of more collagen. An at-home collagen mask made with these ingredients can help you achieve skin that looks and feels more supple and firm.
Things You'll Need
Place 1/2 cup of chopped carrots and 1/2 fresh guava fruit into a blender. Blend the vitamin A-rich foods for 30 seconds on “High” to form a puree.
Scrape the carrot and guava puree out of the blender, transferring it to a bowl.
Add one teaspoon each of honey and fresh lemon juice, along with five drops each of vitamin C skin serum and vitamin E oil. The skin serum and oil can both be purchased at a drug store or shop that specializes in skincare products.
Stir the ingredients together with a wooden spoon.
Smooth the collagen mask over the skin on your face until it’s completely covered to a depth of about 1/8-inch. Allow the mask to remain on your face for 15 to 20 minutes.
Run warm water over a clean washcloth. Squeeze out the excess water. Wipe the collagen mask off your face. Rinse the cloth off between wipes.
Splash cool water over your face then pat dry with a clean towel. Moisturize as usual.
Use this collagen mask recipe once or twice per week. Overuse can result in orange staining of your skin from the beta carotene in the carrots.
