There are a number of reasons why you may need to make a ring smaller. Perhaps it’s too loose because you have lost weight, or you may want to purchase one that happens to be a bit too big for your finger. Using an insert, also known as a ring guard, is an effective way to make a ring fit your finger, and it alleviates the need to take the ring to a jeweler.

Things You'll Need

Place the band of the ring on top of the long part of the insert. Apply pressure to the insert so that it takes the shape of the ring.

Bend the ends of the prongs on the insert around the ring band using pliers. Tighten the arm of the insert in a circular motion around the band.

Adjust the size of the ring by pushing the middle of the insert up. This will make the inside of the band smaller.
