Dry, cracked lips is a common condition that effects both men and women. Yet, if you were to pay attention solely to television advertising, it would appear that women are the only ones that desire soft, kissable lips. This, of course, is not true. Many men desire soft lips, not only because it looks more attractive, but also because chapped lips are very painful. Though not well known, there are a variety of store-bought products geared toward men and their pursuit of soft lips. However, soft lips are a possibility without the expensive salves.
Things You'll Need
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. This will keep the body hydrated and the skin, including the skin on the lips, soft. It will also help to stave off cracking.
Brush your lower lip in a gentle circular motion with a soft bristle toothbrush. Brush for one minute, then repeat on the upper lip. This will remove dry and dead skin from the lips. Do this once a day.
Dip your finger in olive oil and apply to your lips using a circular motion. Leave on for 2 minutes then wipe away with a clean wash cloth. Do this twice a day to help rid your lips of cracks and keep them soft. If olive oil is not available, butter and honey are both good substitutes. Once your lips are soft, repeat on a weekly basis.
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your lips before bedtime. Allow the petroleum jelly to dry, then apply a second, thicker coat. Wipe away in the morning.
Apply Chapstick or lip balm several times a day to keep your lips moist and soft.
Avoid licking your lips as this can dry them out and cause cracking.
