Cellulite on your legs is caused by fatty deposits underneath the skin that causes a dimpled appearance. The condition, often referred to as cottage cheese skin, can make you self-conscious when wearing clothes that reveal your legs. Cellulite can be caused and influenced by things like an unhealthy diet, hormones and genetics. The condition is hard to get rid of completely, but there are things you can do to quickly reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Things You'll Need
Make healthy changes to your diet. Avoid processed, fatty, sugary and fried foods, which only contribute to your cellulite problem. Replace full-fat foods with low-fat alternatives. Eat lean protein, such as chicken and fish, instead of fatty protein. Fill up on vegetables and fruits and choose complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice and whole-wheat bread, over simple carbohydrates.
Incorporate an exercise regimen into your lifestyle. Include cardiovascular exercise, such as jogging, biking, walking or swimming. Add weight training to your exercise routine to tone and tighten your skin. Include lunges and squats to target your legs. The Mayo Clinic website states that exercise will keep your weight under control and keep fat gain at bay.
Scrub your skin with an exfoliating brush two to three times per day to promote blood circulation and eliminate toxins. Rub your skin with the brush in a circular motion working from your feet upward. Avoid using too much pressure because it can damage your skin.
Massage the affected area vigorously or go to a salon to have a professional cellulite massage treatment. The Cellulite Removal Methods website states that massaging cellulite-effected areas breaks down the fatty deposits so the appearance of cellulite is diminished; it also promotes blood flow and the drainage of waste and toxins from the skin.
Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water per day to rid your body of waste and toxins that build up and contribute to cellulite.
Apply a topical cellulite cream to your legs. The Mayo Clinic website states that applying 0.3 percent retinol cream, twice a day, has been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your legs within six months.
