Going back to school in the fall can be like a fashion show. Your friends are wearing their new clothes, and they often have new hairstyles and makeup as well. To ensure you go back to school looking your best from head to toe, schedule a makeover. Even if you don’t have a lot of money, you can try new makeup, get a haircut and have a spa day. Best of all, you can experiment online without having to commit.
Visit a makeup store, whether it’s the cosmetics counter of a department store or a high-end boutique. Schedule an appointment for a makeover, which many shops offer free as an introduction to their products. It is customary to make a purchase after a makeover, but you don’t have to buy everything. Ask for samples, too.
Schedule a cut and color with your favorite stylist. If you don’t have a favorite and you’re open to suggestion, ask salons if they need models for hair shows. You will get a free cut and color in exchange for letting them do what they want, so it’s ideal for the adventurous and thrifty.
Have a spa day, preferably with your best friends. Spa days can be as extravagant as full massages and facials or as simple as a manicure and pedicure. For an inexpensive treat that makes a big difference, have your eyebrows waxed or threaded.
Get a sun-kissed look, even if you haven’t been to the beach, with an artificial tan. Avoid the damaging ultraviolet rays of direct sunlight and tanning beds — there’s no need when spray tans and bronzing lotions exist.
Get a group of friends together for an at-home makeover party the weekend before school starts. Give one another deep conditioning or color treatments, manicures, facial masks and new makeup looks. Add in neck and shoulder massages for a truly divine experience.
