Wearing the same cosmetics every day is sure to lead to a makeup meltdown. One of the easiest ways to freshen up your face is to vary your makeup pallet with the seasons. Wear darker hues in the winter and lighten things up a bit when warmer weather shines through. It’s also a good idea to switch up your daily skin-care routine to include products that help reduce wrinkles, clear acne and brighten the skin. By simply changing up your makeup and skin-care regimen, you’re sure to turn dull skin delightful in a matter of weeks.
Things You'll Need
Fill a tabletop facial steamer with water. Place your face 8 inches away from the steam, and close your eyes for 10 minutes, once a week. The steam opens up the pours so that toxins are released and helps rid the skin of impurities. You can then more readily cleanse your skin of the dirt and oils that lead to acne and dull skin.
Wash your face every day and night before going to bed. Start with a gentle exfoliate cleanser around your entire face. Rinse with warm water and blot your face with a clean towel. Apply toner to a cotton pad and swipe around your entire face. This helps remove excess oils and dead skin, and also aids in absorption for your other skin-care products. Lastly, apply a moisturizer especially formulated for your skin.
Apply an illuminating makeup that blends well with your natural skin tone. Peach, neutral colors, earthy green and coral are shades that every woman can wear. They warm up the skin and project a glowing appearance. Also, try a peachy blush that can make grayish skin appear more vibrant. In addition, a blend of pink and coral lip gloss brightens every skin tone and helps freshen up the face with its vibrant hue. Finish with a black mascara to open the eyes.
Take your makeup off every night with a nongreasy makeup remover. Apply facial products that rejuvenate your skin as you sleep. Use products with alpha hydroxy acid and benzoyl peroxide for acne, or retinoids that help with antiaging and wrinkles. Combat tired, puffy eyes by dabbing an eye serum around your eyes every night before bed.
Use a whitening toothpaste twice a day, purchase an over-the-counter teeth-whitening system or visit your dentist to see how you can get a brighter smile. If you go with whitening strips from the drug store, purchase ones with 10 percent hydrogen peroxide, which is the highest concentration you can get over the counter.
Get a stylish hair cut and add some highlights in front to brighten your face. Brown hair looks great with sun-kissed highlights; darker hair takes on a fresh look when woven with cinnamon and caramel hues; blonds look good with chunky gold highlights; and gray hair chopped in layers gets a lift with silver highlights. Also, a few drops of Vitamin E mixed into your conditioner adds shine and elasticity to dry hair.
