Make JELL-O-flavored popcorn with any gelatin flavor. This treat is a favorite around Christmastime, because you can make two batches of popcorn — one flavored with cherry JELL-O, the other with lime — for the seasonal colors of red and green. Some recipes recommend that you press the popcorn into balls or to add peanuts to the mix for extra flavor. For the best results, use freshly popped popcorn instead of a bag of pre-popped corn. It will take about 40 minutes to prepare the snack.
Things You'll Need
Preheat the oven to 300 F.
Line the baking pan with a layer of aluminum foil.
Put 8 cups of freshly popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl.
Put 1/4 cup of butter and 3 tbsp. of light corn syrup in a small saucepan.
Stir the butter and syrup continuously in the saucepan with the wooden spoon over low heat until the mixture is completely melted.
Add 1/2 cup of firmly packed light brown sugar and one 4-serving-size package of JELL-O to the saucepan.
Keep stirring the mixture until the JELL-O completely dissolves.
Turn the burner up to medium heat and let the ingredients come to a boil.
Turn the burner’s heat down low so the liquid can simmer for 5 minutes.
Pour the mixture over the popcorn and toss with the wooden spoon until the popcorn is completely coated.
Spoon the popcorn onto the baking pan and spread it so it evenly covers the aluminum foil.
Bake the popcorn for 10 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven and let the popcorn sit until it completely cools.
Break the popcorn into pieces with the wooden spoon and place the pieces in a serving bowl.
