Once your hair is severely damaged, it can be tough to fix. Damage can occur from bleaching, chemical treatments or the use of heat-styling tools such as blow dryers, flat irons or curling irons. The only way to entirely remove the damage from the hair is to cut it off. However, there are ways to fix severely damaged hair so that it’s presentable.
Things You'll Need
Shampoo your hair less frequently, as it can strip the healthy oils from your hair. Follow with a moisturizing conditioner. Severely damaged hair needs as much moisture as possible. Shampoo your hair every other day or every third day if possible. When you wash your hair, only use lukewarm or cool water as hot water dries out the hair.
Always apply a heavy leave-in conditioner after washing and conditioning your hair. After applying it to the hair, comb it through gently using a wide-toothed comb.
Apply a deep conditioner to your hair once or twice a week. Slather your hair with it, concentrating on the ends, and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
Air dry your hair as often as possible. It’s best to avoid using a blow dryer and hot styling tools, as they cause further damage to the hair and also prevent it from improving.
On the days that you don’t shampoo your hair, use dry shampoo.
