Braids are a popular girl’s hairstyle. There are many types of braids, including the basic braid, the french braid and the fishtail braid. The fishtail braid is called that because it resembles a fish’s tail. A fishtail braid is slightly harder and longer to do than a basic braid.

Things You'll Need

Brush hair and remove any tangles.

Bring hair into a tight ponytail. Secure with a hairband.

Separate the ponytail into two strands. Start by holding the two strands in your left hand.

Take a thin strand of hair from the outside of the right strand. Bring the thin strand over to the left strand. Hold the two strands in your right hand.

Take a thin strand of hair from the outside of the left strand. Bring the thin strand over to the right strand.

Repeat Steps 4 through 7 until the entire ponytail is in a fishtail braid. Secure the end with a hairband.
