Would you like to bake for your family but feel like it takes too much time? Have an hour? Then you have time for home made bread. Try this quick and easy family-favorite bread recipe and be a suppertime hero. Who knows, your kids might even offer to help with the dishes.
Things You'll Need
Combine water, yeast, salt, sugar, and oil. Stir until completely dissolved. Be sure the water is warm but not hot. If it is too hot it will kill the yeast, and the bread will not rise properly.
Add flour and mix dough with the wooden spoon until moderately stiff. All-purpose flour can be substituted for the bread flour, but bread flour yields a nicer texture.
Turn dough onto floured board and knead by folding over and pressing in with the heel of your hand. Do this several times until the dough is smooth.
Shape dough into a loaf and place in loaf pan sprayed with cooking spray.
Set the pan in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size (85 degrees for 30 minutes to an hour).
Bake in preheated oven at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
This recipe makes nice rolls. Divide dough into 16 rolls. Let them rise until double (about 30 minutes). Reduce baking time.
Serve with homemade butter for a real treat.
This recipe makes nice cinnamon rolls or Swedish Tea Ring. Roll out, spread with butter, sugar, cinnamon, etc., roll up, slice, let rise, and bake. Delicious!
