Oils and lotions are often used by masseurs to enhance the experience. The scents from these oils can create certain moods or mental states. You can create your own aromatherapy massage oil to use for yourself or to give as a thoughtful gift to someone special.
Things You'll Need
Homemade Massage Oil
Combine two tbsp. each peanut oil, avocado oil, sesame oil and almond oil with three to five drops of your favorite essential oil. Oils can be found at your local grocery store. Essential oils can be found at the local craft store.
Pour all ingredients in a sealed bottle that holds four ounces. Shake well.
Let the mixture sit for at least an hour to absorb the scent from the essential oil.
This oil—like all of the scented massage oils—can also serve as a body oil to use after a bath or shower.
Grape Seed Massage Oil
Combine one-half cup grape seed oil, one-half tsp. dried orange zest, one-half tsp. dried lavender, one small cinnamon stick and two whole clove buds in a clean, dry bottle and seal tightly. These ingredients can be found at your local natural food store and craft store.
Shake gently and let sit for one to two weeks. You may strain the oil through paper coffee filters. This step is optional; you can leave the dried ingredients floating in the oil for an attractive display.
Pour a small amount into your hands and massage into your skin.
