Many skin care products contain ingredients from nature. Before reaching for that debit card to purchase the latest skin care products, go right to the source of the nutrients and try your hand at a homemade facial. Always wash your face with your regular skin cleanser before applying a homemade face mask.

Milk of Magnesia

Milk of magnesia works to treat acne and oily skin. Coat your face in a thin layer and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Rinse and pat your face dry with a clean towel. This milk of magnesia mask will absorb the oils and prevent breakouts.

Egg Whites

If you’ve noticed your skin sagging, make an egg whites face mask. Separate egg whites from the yolk and apply the whites to your face. Let it dry for 20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and patting your skin dry. Egg whites leave your skin smooth and firm.


For dry skin, try a milk mask. The lactic acid in milk will exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells. After exfoliating with milk, you should seed, peel and mash an avocado. Smear it onto your face and let dry for 15 minutes. Rinse your face and pat skin dry. Not only is the avocado rich in minerals, but the oils in the avocado will lock in moisture.


For spotty skin, create a solution of one tablespoon of each of the following ingredients: brewer’s yeast, yogurt, lemon juice, orange juice, carrot juice and olive oil. For drier skin, add more oil. This solution will cleanse your skin and deliver nutrients.


Honey is a dominant ingredient in many skin care products. Make your own cleansing mask using one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of finely ground almonds and one half teaspoon of lemon juice. Rub this solution onto your face gently and rinse with warm water. This solution will remove pollutants from the skin and promote growth of new, healthy skin cells.


If you have oily skin, make a tomato mask. Mash a ripe tomato and apply it all over your face. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. The tomato’s natural acidity rids the skin of oils. It is also packed with Vitamin C, which will brighten dull skin. Tomato can also be combined with lime juice to reduce the size of your pores.


Oily skin will also benefit from an oatmeal mask. Blend one tablespoon of honey with one egg yolk. Slowly add oatmeal until it forms a soft paste. Cover your face in this mixture and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
