You can't just apply standard sunscreen around your eyes, as such products are often too heavy and irritating for this sensitive region of your body. That doesn't mean the skin around your eyes can go without sun protection. Several over-the-counter eye creams can help to nourish and condition your skin while offering varying levels of ultraviolet light filtration.
Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour Care Ultra Protection SPF 30
Sunscreen expert Paula Begoun gives Clarin's eye contour care cream top marks on her three-tiered rating system. She likes its use of titanium dioxide as its sunscreen ingredient, saying it is gentle enough for the sensitive, delicate skin around the eyes. It's also made without irritating fragrances. Meanwhile, herbal extracts nourish and hydrate the skin to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and photoaging.
Clinique Sun-Care Lip/Eye SPF 45
The dual-purpose Clinique lip and eye product is the best combination of hydrating balm and sunblock, according to "InStyle" magazine. Reviewing the balm for the magazine, dermatologist Ramsey Alsarraf says it's a "superior" product. Emollients help to condition the skin while the high SPF rating shields the skin to reduce premature aging signs, such as wrinkles.
Clinique Superdefense Triple Action Moisturizer SPF 25
Clinique's daily moisturizer can be used all over your face, including around your eyes. "Elle" magazine ranks it as one of the top five moisturizers with sun-shielding effects, saying it helps to both recondition and soften your skin while preventing sun-influenced damage, like brown liver spots.
Dior HydrAction Eye Cream SPF 20
The eye cream from Dior smooths on sheer. It's intended to form a rich base for your makeup or eye concealer to ensure even coverage, according to "ElleGirl" magazine. Its sun-protecting factor is an added perk.
La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye Cream SPF 15
La Prairie's anti-aging eye cream has lots of emollients with an avobenzone sunscreen, according to Begoun. This leaves your delicate eye skin plumped up and hydrated, and simultaneously protected from the sun. Natural herbal extracts like horsetail may also help soothe skin inflammation and improve the condition of your skin.
